North Canterbury Earthquake information

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Canterbury at 4.35am on Saturday 4th September 2010, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, as well as commercial and residential property. This was followed by a 6.3 magnitude aftershock on the 22nd of February 2011. There was minimal additional damage to the Waimakariri District from that aftershock.  More significant earthquakes followed on 14 February 2016 and 14 November 2016.
